Ready for the future
"Many claim they can do what Priva ECO does, but usually do not live up to it in practice."
Making buildings more sustainable through the use of innovative concepts, technologies and systems. That is the mission of Cenergie consultancy in a nutshell. “Priva ECO fits that picture perfectly,” says Jonathan Fronhoffs, Energy Consultant at Cenergie. "The software not only gets the highest return from your installation at all times, but also prepares your building for the energy transition that is coming. "
Buildings are the backbone of our living and working environment. Cenergie helps owners and managers to make that environment more sustainable through the smart use of energy. The study and consultancy firm offers a service for every phase in the life cycle of the building, based on four pillars: advice, audits, energy-efficient techniques and energy management. In addition to energy, Cenergie also embraces sustainability in a broader sense, including specific services related to water management and circular construction.
Frontrunners in sustainability
Cenergie arose more than twenty years ago from an initiative of the University of Antwerp to develop innovative solutions for sustainable energy use. More than twenty years later, that pioneering mentality is still there. “We want to be at the forefront of everything we do,” says Jonathan Fronhoffs. “This manifests itself on various fronts. For example, when building was completed in 2010, our Brussels office - a collaboration between Cenergie and Architectes Associés - was the largest passive office building in the Benelux. ”
“But of course we also keep on top of new technologies, tools and software. For example, we recently launched C-Calc, a tool to calculate the circularity of a building. ” Cenergie also added Priva ECO to its offering. This allows customers to control their HVAC installations fully automated, with maximum user comfort as a starting point. "Priva ECO also does this independently of the supplier, which is of course an important aspect for us as an engineering office. "
Savings possible in every building
The control of HVAC installations is an important focal point for the consultants of Cenergie. “Today you can enter almost any building and realize savings without having to take drastic measures,” explains Jonathan Fronhoffs. “It usually starts with pushing the right buttons on the installations to make them more profitable. In practice, we see few installations of which you can say they run perfectly and where you can no longer improve. ”
That makes Priva ECO such a relevant tool. “Because you can of course do all these optimizations yourself, but that takes a lot of time, especially if you want to continuously monitor and improve. Moreover, Priva ECO also takes many other aspects into account, such as weather forecasts and energy prices. By adding day and night tariffs to the system, you can let the building heat up or cool down during off-peak hours. ”
Screening of existing installations
Straightaway in the very first phase of implementation, Priva ECO is bringing a lot of irregularities to the surface. “You typically let the system run in the shadows for a few weeks with the existing control system. Priva ECO continuously calculates the ideal situation, so that deviations are immediately detected: malfunctioning sensors, problems with the control, installations that start up for inexplicable reasons and so on. In that sense, you can almost use Priva ECO as a kind of audit tool. ”
Ready for the energy transition
But Jonathan also sees a lot of potential for the future. “For example, you can use Priva ECO to increase the use of renewable sources in your building. The system knows perfectly when your solar panels produce the most energy and will adjust the heating or cooling of the building accordingly. ”
Once the entire building has been modeled in the system, it is a small step to switch it to a smart grid or heat network. “They will arrive sooner than we think, if I can rely on conversations with customers and recent tenders. Priva ECO is also closely involved in a number of large pilot projects in this sense. I think this also makes the difference with other solutions we see in the market: there are many who claim to be able to do what ECO does, but in practice they do not make it happen. ”
